Oh man!! Have you ever typed out the best story ever told that was so long but worth it and then your computer looses connection?? THIS JUST HAPPENED! I’ve got this HILARIOUS story I’m going to share in tomorrow’s blog because I can’t possibly sit here a type it all out again! Man.. frustration here at the Hensley House!
Anyway.. being able to post these next shots makes things all better. Tonya, who is a photographer in the Johnson City area, called me up a few months ago with this killer idea! Since her dress was just sitting in the closet.. why not put it to good use and get some great pictures at the same time. I’ve seen a-many trash-the-dress sessions.. most of which were beyond cheesy so I’ve always replied to anyone interested in a “Trash The Dress” session, “Only if you REALLY want to trash it! None of this wading in the water stuff.” Sometimes I get another email.. sometimes I don’t. So, if after seeing these you want to do the same BRING IT ON! I’d love love love to! However, you better be ready to really trash the thing.. I’m thinking: rain storm, dirt, beach/sand, gallons of paint being thrown at you, ripping, burning… trashing the thing! If interested.. let me know! Think of the dirtiest place possible and I’ll meet you there!
This idea was all the brainchild of my new friend Tonya. I couldn’t wait to shoot this “rockstar” session from the moment we got off the phone. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
Location: Bristol, TN
Welcome to my first Bridal Session blog post! However you found yourself here… feel welcomed and appreciated for stopping by! I love what I do and I hope that it shows in every image you find here.
In each of my wedding packages I include a bridal session. I never thought much of them until my own wedding (3.5 years ago to the most amazing man ever..). It was included in the wedding package I purchased and I’m thankful for it; only because the day of the wedding there wasn’t much chance for great pictures of my dress. My dress was my TOP favorite detail about our wedding. It was by Ramona Keveza and the moment I saw it I almost cried. Of course I couldn’t order one because I simply wasn’t paying $4000 for my bridal gown so the WONDERFUL WONDERFUL people at Wedding Wonderland, here in Knoxville, sold me the one off the floor. Yes, it had been tried on before and needed a little TLC in the form of deep cleaning… but it was my very own Ramona Keveza and it was perfect! I adore this dress and will occasionally still try to put it on from time to time.. although it’s not even close to fitting. ;(
For this particular bridal session I had a very good friend Heather (great Knoxville stylist check out her website –> HeatherKerley.com) throw on MY wedding dress for a model shoot! The headpiece used for the session was FABULOUS and on loan from, again, the wonderful people at Wedding Wonderland. She looked so beautiful and is perfectly photogenic! I owed her a VENTI Starbucks for standing in the freezing temps for hours! In most of the shots it’s actually snowing and I had to edit out the chill bumps! Not only that, but the wind was INSANE! I’m posting a few funny wind shots at the end for your enjoyment. Heather, you are truly a GREAT friend!
We had various locations in mind, but only ended up using 2 due to the weather: her backyard, her house and a scrap yard I’ve had my eye on for a while. When we were shooting in the scrap yard one of the workers walked up and asked if he could take a picture of us with his phone. What he said next was my favorite part of the day, “My wife would never believe me if I didn’t take this picture.. huh, huh”. I love my job… that I get to break the norms with this fascinating little piece of machinery.. my Canon.
I wanted to also use this post to let my 2010 brides know that they can think outside the box for their shoots. Nothing is off limits! Go crazy you guys!!
this picture was tough to get! I think Heather and I both cringe when we look at it! Heather is surrounded by sticker bushes and we kept getting stuck!! Note to self.. do NOT take an afghan into a patch of sticker bushes. Just don’t do it.
WIND PICTURES AS PROMISED!!

These are so awesome and a great little story to go along. I normally don’t brag on myself in pics but you made me look awesome! I had so so much fun and would love to work with you anytime you need another shooter! even if it is in knoxville. There is much better shopping in Knoxville LOL. Call me anytime and if I can get a plane reserved that would be fun too! If you are working in JC and have time for lunch or dinner give me a shout. Oh I was wondering if any full length pics turned out at the train station before we trashed it? No biggie just wondering. OK I am rambling but I am just so EXCITED. You have an awesome talent girl!
Thanks
Tonya
I LOVE the trash the dress pics. Those are AWESOME!!! I love that fact that the bride let her boys add some color to her dress. That’s so cool!!!! I’m sure the little one had a BLAST!! I used to live in Bristol, and love shooting downtown. So many cool buildings and old doors. Very good job!!
